Papers of this first Free Methodist Church missionary to India [manuscript] 1878-1930.

Diaries and correspondence of Ward, and his wife Phebe E. Ward discuss their life in India and missionary activities chiefly near Yeotmal, India. The diaries of Phebe Ward, 1880-1910, chiefly regard spiritual matters, particualrly her concern for the well being of her soul and the souls of her daughters. She also touches on domestic matters in the missionary compound including buildings, servants, food, and other missionaries. Scrapbooks of Ernest Ward concern his life and work in India and include reports to the "home folk" about the progress of his work. There is also a 1966 review of the Ward papers by University of Virginia graduate student Darden Asbury Pyron, who describes them as of "no great interest" and full of "spiritual wind."
